TYPE LOCALITY: Kazakhstan, NW of Aral Sea .

DISTRIBUTION: Formerly Kazakhstan region, but now extinct (see Corbet, 1978c, and reference therein); Nxingiang ( Ma et al., 1987), and W Mongolia.

COMMENTS: Reviewed by Corbet (1978c) and Gromov and Polyakov (1977). Cranial and dental morphology described by Hinton (1926) in context of surveying interrelationships among arvicoline genera.
