COMMENTS: A distinctive genus as asserted by Ellerman (1941) and other workers (e.g., Hutterer and Dieterlen, 1984; Rosevear, 1969), and unrelated to Thamnomys with which it has often been united as a subgenus ( Allen, 1939; Hatt, 1940fe; Hollister, 1919; Misonne, 1974; Petter and Tranier, 1975). Partly reviewed by Petter and Tranier (1975) and Hutterer and Dieterlen (1984), who provided morphological, distributional, and chromosomal comparisons. Morphological and chromosomal similarities exist with Thallomys ( Olert et al., 1978) .
