TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, W Sumatra, Korinchi Peak, Sungei Kumbang, 4700 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: Endemic to mountain forests of W Sumatra.

COMMENTS: One of the most distinctive species of Maxomys , as reflected by its wide rostrum and inflated nasolacrimal capsules (Musser et al., 1979).
