TYPE SPECIES: Oxymycterus apicalis J. A. Allen, 1900 .

COMMENTS: Akodontine. Viewed as closely related to Oxymycterus by Reig (1987), but electrophoretic data reveal Lenoxus as the most highly differentiated sister taxon to all other akodonts surveyed, including Oxymycterus (Patton et al., 1989) .
