TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Prov. Pichincha, Volcän Pichincha, 11,500 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: N Ecuador at high elevations.

COMMENTS: Highest diploid number (2n=92) yet reported for Mammalia ( Gardner, 1971). Taxonomy and distribution reviewed by Voss (1988).
