TYPE LOCALITY: Chile, Magallanes Prov., Straits of Magellan, Port Famine .

DISTRIBUTION: S Patagonian region of Chile and Argentina, including Tierra del Fuego.

COMMENTS: Karyotypic, morphometric, and phallic differention from O. longicaudatus supports the specific recognition of O. magellanicus ( Gallardo and Palma, 1990; Gallardo and Patterson, 1985).
