TYPE LOCALITY: Mexico, Chiapas, mountains above Tumbala, 5500 ft .

DISTRIBUTION: Middle to high elevation cloud forest in mountains of NC Chiapas, Mexico.

SYNONYMS: cristobalensis.

COMMENTS: Distribution and morphological variation reviewed by Huckaby (1980). Relationship and taxonomic status with respect to P. guatemalensis and P. grandis unresolved. P. mexicanus species group.
