TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Minas Gerais, near Lagoa Santa .

DISTRIBUTION: NE Argentina, W Paraguay, and SE Bolivia to E Brazil (Edo. Pernambuco).

SYNONYMS: wavrini , reigi .

COMMENTS: Formerly classified as Oryzomys incertae sedis (Cabrera, 1961). Lectotype designated, synonymy presented, karyotype and distribution discussed by Voss and Myers (1991).
