TYPE LOCALITY: Greece, Crete, Ida Mtns, Nida plateau .

DISTRIBUTION: Highlands of the island of Crete.

STATUS: IUCN - Rare.

COMMENTS: Formerly regarded as a subspecies of russula but differs in morphology and karyotype; see Vesmanis and Kahmann (1978), Vogel (1986), and Pieper (1990).
