Murex Vindobonensis Hoernes View in CoL — Mayer 1864: 71.

Discussion. As with the species above, this determination was based on two small fragments from Feteirinhas (= Ponta das Salinas) and said to belong to the Murex erinaceus group. Today, this species is placed in the genus Ocenebra Gray, 1847 . Two sub-species are recognized O. vindobonensis vindobonensis (Ĥrnes, 1853), present in the Lower and Middle Miocene Paratethys and eastern Proto-Mediterranean, and O. vindobonensis ligeriana (Tournouër, 1875) from the Atlantic middle Miocene of the Loire Basin, France. This species complex is typically Miocene ( Landau et al., 2006c), and we prefer to exclude this record until further verified.
