Tsang Wai Tak 17309 (UC) was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Saprosma hainanensis Merr. (Merrill, 1930). However, the collection number on the label of the holotype specimen is 560, while its herbarium number is Lingnan University Herbarium 17309. Thus, the erroneous collection number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
