Tsang Wai Tak 17449 (UC) was the only gathering cited in the protologue of the name Gardenia hainanensis Merr. (Merrill, 1930). However, the collection number on the label of the holotype specimen is 700, while its herbarium number is Lingnan University Herbarium 17449. Therefore, the collection number cited in the protologue is to be corrected.
