Merhippolyte americana Holthuis, 1961: 1 View in CoL , fig 1.

Material examined. None.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (North Carolina, southern Florida), Mexico (Yucatan Channel), Brazil (Ceará, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay, Argentina ( Christoffersen 1979; 1998; Pachelle et al. 2016).

Previous records. R/V Prof. Wladimir Besnard, St. 1148 (23°36'S, 42°29'W) and R/V Calypso, St. 138 (24°43'S, 45°10'W) ( Christoffersen 1979); locality not mentioned ( Christoffersen 1998).

Remarks. Pachelle et al. (2016) reported some morphological divergences between specimens from northeastern Brazil and from eastern USA. The authors suggested that a more detailed comparison (including molecular data) is necessary to clarify these divergences.
