Diagnosis. Medium size (about 3.6 mm length). Antenna with scape yellow, pedicel and postpedicel brown; postpedicel very long, 3.5 times longer than length of scape and pedicel combined, with three dorsal setae near base, stylus shorter than antenna; palpus yellow with several long setae. Thorax yellow with dark brown quadrangular dorsal stain at anterior 1/3; prosternum wide; scutum rounded and moderately high; scutellum with three pairs of long setae. Abdomen yellow with dense yellow golden pruinescence. Legs yellow and slender. Wing sub-hyaline with golden iridescence; pterostigma small and rounded, light brown; transverse veins with smooth light brown infuscation; a transverse brownish band close to the apex of the wing.

Examined material. HOLOTYPE ♂ ( INPA): BRASIL, Amazonas, Parque Nacional do Jaú, 8–16.iv.2001, 01°53′04″S–61°35′11″W / Arm. Susp.— 20m, Floresta, Henriques & Vidal / Hólotipo Syneches longiflagellatus, Ale-Rocha & Vieira (red label).

Geographical distribution. Brazil (Amazonas) ( Fig. 120 View FIGURE 120 ).

Comments. This species is easily distinguished from congeners by the postpedicel very long, more than three times the length of scape and pedicel combined, with parallel sides, and the wide prosternum. In S. striatus sp. nov. the postpedicel is moderately long, almost two times the length of scape and pedicel together, however it is ovate.
