Stevenia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 220 [original description]. Type species: Stevenia tomentosa Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 220 [= Tachina atramentaria Meigen, 1824: 291 ], by designation of Desmarest in d’Orbigny (1848: 32) [see Evenhuis & Thompson 1990: 238].

Diagnosis. Facial profile not receding. Parafacial with a row of strong setae in lower half. Lunule bare. Antenna longer than height of gena. Gena shorter than height of compound eye. Postpronotum with two setae ( S. gilasiani sp. nov.) or three setae arranged in a triangle or nearly so. Anterior katepisternal seta robust and more than 2/3 length of posterodorsal katepisternal seta. Prealar seta short, distinctly shorter and weaker than notopleural setae. Mid tibia with at least 2 anterodorsal setae. Distal section of CuA+CuP about 3/4 of total length of CuA+CuP. Vein M meeting vein R 4+5 so that cell r 4+5 is distinctly petiolate. Male: median process of ventral sclerotization of distiphallus not interrupted, running from the ventral plate to the tip of the distiphallus; distiphallus with a short,

membranous flag-like projection distal to extension of dorsal sclerite; acrophallus distinctly tripartite (i.e., with three openings). Apomorphies. Wing cell r 4+5 is distinctly petiolate (homoplastic).
