Mimonneticus View in CoL , new genus
Type species: Mimonneticus guianae View in CoL , new species, by present designation.
Description. Head with one large, distinct, microcorrugate area behind antennal tubercles, densely clothed with short, erect hairs. Frons somewhat depressed. Antennal tubercles prominent, subacuminate, proximate. Genae subparallel, acute, ⅓ as long as lower eye lobes. Mandibles in both sexes without dorsal lobe at base. Antennae in males subserrate, barely exceeding elytral apices; female antennae conspicuously serrate, reaching middle of elytra; scape short, cylindrical, arcuate, at most reaching posterior margin of upper eye lobe; segment 2 without lateral projections; segment 3 as long as 5, barely longer than 4; segment 11 about ⅓ longer than 3, appendiculate; sensorial system well defined on apical half of segment 3, apical ⅔ of 4, and extending the entire length of segments 5–11; segments 3–10 with long, flying hairs, scattered in males, numerous and much longer in females. Prothorax elongate, cylindrical, somewhat rounded at sides, gradually attenuated to apex and base. Pronotum somewhat raised at apical ⅔, with one feebly prominent gibbosity on each side near base. Prosternum with sexual punctation; intercoxal process about ⅓ as wide as one procoxa, somewhat expanded medially, attenuated apically, with one median longitudinal carina, lateral margins prominent. Scutellum 3 times as long as wide, rounded at apex, borders prominent. Elytra about 3 times as long as prothorax; coarsely, densely, deeply punctate, punctures subseriate; apices conjointly rounded, not extended beyond abdominal apex, sutural angles slightly projected. Mesofemora subclavate; metafemora linear, almost reaching elytral apices in both sexes, with one row of dense, short, erect setae at basal half on dorsal surface, dentate at apex. Ventral surface of metatibiae flattened, almost impunctate, with long, sparse hairs. First segment of metatarsi shorter than the following two combined. First urosternite twice as long as second.
Remarks. Mimonneticus View in CoL is similar to those species of Ceralocyna View in CoL possessing an elongate, cylindrical prothorax and subplane, coarsely punctate pronotum, such as Ceralocyna seticornis (Bates) View in CoL , Ceralocyna variegata Monné and Napp (1999) View in CoL ( Fig. 8 View Figs ) and a few others. In addition to the characters mentioned in the key, it differs from Ceralocyna View in CoL by the rounded elytral apices, not extending beyond the abdominal apex, the flattened, sparsely setose ventral surface of metatibiae and the metafemora almost reaching the elytral apices in both sexes. In Ceralocyna View in CoL the elytra are moderately extended beyond the abdominal apex, with the apices truncate, the sutural and outer angles acute; the metatibiae are cylindrical, with dense, short setae on the ventral surface; the metafemora are shorter, not reaching the apical declivity of the elytra and, even in males with short antennae, the segments are almost cylindrical, with segment 3 in both sexes longer than either of the following two segments.
Etymology. The name honors Dr. Miguel A. Monne´; the suffix noëtikus is a Greek word meaning intellectual, intelligent, thoughtful.
