Type genus: Macrosteles Fieber, 1866

Diagnosis. Body yellow, greenish or stramineous. Head with or without dark spots. Forewing with appendix extending to third apical cell, with two anteapical cells. Male pygofer usually with plumose macrosetae. Connective with arms divergent. Subgenital plate normally with membranous digitate apical lobe. Aedeagal shaft not hinged at base. Ovipositor with sculpture reticulated, extending to dorsal margin.

Distribution. Worldwide.

Remarks. Zahniser & Dietrich (2013) provided a detailed description of the tribe. The genus Balclutha was considered a member of a separate tribe Balcluthini by Oman (1949) but Linnavuori (1959) transferred it to Macrostelini . Macrostelini contains 37 genera and 316 species of which Macrosteles , Balclutha and Cicadulina are reported from Pakistan.
