Bryopharsos Quate, 1996 View in CoL

Bryopharsos Quate 1996: 40 View in CoL . Type species: Bryopharsos palpiculum Quate View in CoL , original designation.

Bryopharsos: Quate (1999: 434) View in CoL ; Ježek (2010: 237); Kvifte (2018: 603).

Revised diagnosis. Vertex short, up to twice the width of the eye bridge; eye bridge contiguous with 3–5 facet rows; antennae with 14 flagellomeres, 1–13 eccentric nodiforms; flagellomere 14 with long digitiform apiculus; a pair of leaf-shaped ascoids on flagellomeres 1–13, palpus short at least reaching the third flagellomere; labellum short, not bulbous; allurement organs in males present or absent in the thorax; wing membrane with alveoli; R 5 ends at apex; gonocoxal apodemes fused or contiguous on midline; gonocoxal apodemes projected anteriorly, not fused; gonostylus club-shaped with a rounded apex; cercus with 1 to 5 tenacula; aedeagus asymmetric; ejaculatory apodeme broad in dorsal view.

A wider concept of Bryopharsos is proposed here to accommodate the Brazilian species, mainly the species of São Paulo, with has only one tenaculum and no acute wing but shares the other diagnostic characters of the genus. According to Ježek (2010), Saximormia Ježek , a not Neotropical genus known from Japan, Nepal and Malaysia, is the morphological closest genus to Bryopharsos . The presence of alveoli on wing membrane between veins (the alveoli on wing membranes are absent in Saximormia ) and the number of tenacula, one to five in Bryopharsos (in Saximormia each gonostylus have more than five tenacula), can be point out as differences between Saximormia and Bryopharsus. To other differences between the two genera see Ježek (2010: 237).
