Male. Measurements, body 13.5–17.0 mm; wing 10.0–14.0 mm. Head: Yellowish-gray or gray tomentose, with mostly white setae. Face with black bristles and white setae mixed medially, white bristles and setae ventrally and laterally; face at antennae 2/3–3/4 as wide as 1 eye. Palpi entirely white setose. Antennae mostly or entirely black setose, mixed white setae below scape. Frons mostly or entirely black setose. Ocellar tubercle black setose. Occiput with 6–7 black postocular bristles dorsally, few thinner black bristles laterally.
Thorax: Pronotum whitish tomentose with whitish setae and bristles. Scutum with stripe and lateral spots dark brown tomentose, median stripe narrowly divided entire length with brownish-yellow or yellowish-gray tomentum, tomentum laterally brownish-yellow, middle yellowish-gray posteriorly; bristles and setae black, sparse white setae anteriorly and laterally; anterior scutal setae slightly shorter than scape. Scutellum yellowish-gray tomentose, yellowish or black setose, sometimes mixed, setae slightly longer than scape and pedicel combined, nearly as long as marginal bristles; 2–3 stout, black or yellowish, marginal bristles, additional bristles thinner and shorter. Pleura mostly yellowish-gray tomentose, anepisternum pale brownishgray; vestiture pale. Halter yellowish or reddish-yellow.
Wing ( Fig. 96 View FIGURES 89–96 ): Slightly brownish, darker bordering veins and costal cell; costal cell and narrowly along vein R1 posteriorly with dense, black microtrichia. Costal dilation absent. Crossvein r-m about apical 1/3. Base of cell r4 beyond cell d, slightly oblique; R4 recurrent vein usually short, 1/3–1/2 as long as cell diameter basally, sometimes much longer than cell base.
Leg s: Mostly whitish setose. Femora black, bristles mostly black; 3–5 anteroventral bristles black. Tibiae yellow, apices of tarsomeres black; long setae pale, shorter dense ventral setae reddish-yellow. Tarsi reddishblack, bristles black, short dense setae reddish-yellow.
Abdomen: Reddish-brown or blackish, apical and lateral margins yellowish-brown. Tergites 2–5 brown to dark brown tomentose, appearing black at some angles; dark short setae on tergites 4–5 medially. Segment 1, wide sides of tergites 2–5 and sternites, segments 6–7 yellowish-gray tomentose, pale tomentum often extends along apical margin of tergites 2–4 dorsally; setae mostly white, long on basal 3 segments, much shorter on 5–8 except along apical margins of 7–8 as a single row of white or black setae.
Terminalia ( Figs. 64–67 View FIGURES 64–69 ): Black, mostly black setose, pale setae apically. Epandrium 2.9–3.1 times longer than wide, apically round, somewhat angular posteriorly, with pair of hooks along posterior margin. Gonostylus with apex angular, abruptly wider subapically. Aedeagus with flange subapically, apex narrow, tubes horizontal. Gonocoxa with black setae, long, dense basally, sparser, much shorter posteriorly, anterior and posterior margins narrow apically prong-like, separated by deep notch.
Female. Measurements, body 12.3–16.8 mm; wing 11.3–12.5 mm. Head: Face with numerous black bristles medially, sometimes 1–2 along oral margin laterally; antennae at dorsal 3/4 as wide as 1 eye. Palpi mostly or entirely white setose, 1 female with sparse black setae on apical 1/3. Thorax: Anterior scutal setae slightly shorter than scape. Scutellum black or yellow setose, setae as long as or longer than pedicel and scape combined; 2–4 marginal bristles, usually black, 1–2 thinner than others. Legs: Metathoracic femora with 5 black anteroventral bristles. Abdomen: Wide sides of tergites 1–6 and sternites 1–6 entirely whitish tomentose, setae white, long on sternites 1–3; tergite 7 black, atomentose laterally, brown tomentose, black setose dorsally; sternite 7 atomentose except narrow base, setae white or black setose. Terminalia ( Figs. 68–69 View FIGURES 64–69 ): Length 3.9–5.1 mm, narrow 9.7–10.6 longer than diameter at middle. Cercus 1/3 as long as tergite 9. Spermathecae oval.

Etymology. Latin sinuosa , referring to the deep lobe or sinus on the apex of the gonocoxa.
Remarks. Efferia sinuosa is distinguished by the black bristles confined to the middle of the face, white setose palpi, anterior scutal setae about as long as the scape, scutellar setae longer than the scape and pedicel combined, scutellar bristles thin only slightly thicker than setae; wing brownish, especially bordering veins, costal cell and narrowly below R1 black microtrichose, base of cell r4 angular, R4 recurrent vein short, about 1/ 3–1/2 as long as diameter of cell, and the combined characters of the terminalia ( Figs. 64–69 View FIGURES 64–69 ). The male is further distinguished by the absence of a costal dilation, and segments 6–7 white tomentose. The female is further distinguished by the wide black [atomentose] margin of segment 8 and the mostly or entirely black sternite 8, only the narrow base is sometimes grayish tomentose.
