1. Hypericum View in CoL L. subgenus Hypericum . Type: Hypericum perforatum Linnaeus (1753: 785) .

Dark hypericin-containing glands developed in many sections. Stem 4–2-lined or terete. Perianth and androecium almost always 5-merous. Stamen fascicles free or partly united (nearly always 2+2+1) or rarely indistinct (Sect. 26). Placentation incompletely to completely axile or very rarely (Sect. 28) parietal.

This includes sects. 1–19, 21–28 and Lianthus .
