The holotype of Banatoleon lineatus Kis, 1964 was preserved in the author’s private collection. The collection was later moved to the HNHM in Budapest, but the type specimen is now missing .

Comments: Brauer initially identified the type specimens “ notatus ? det. Brauer” [ Nemoleon notatus (Rambur, 1842) ]; but Navás (1914) described it as a new species. This rare species was described twice more following the original description from collections made in Greece and Romania, and those specimens are now synonyms ( Hölzel 1972). Oswald (2021) listed this species for Hungary, but it has not been collected in that country. Before World War I, the type specimen of Banatoleon lineatus Kis, 1964 was collected in a locality that was within the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, but this area now belongs to Romania.
