Etymology: vriesianum = reference to Vriesia sp. , bromeliad where larvae were found.

Larva described. Yes ( Costa et al. 2009)

Material examined. (1 ♂): Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina , 29.x.1977, N.D. Santos leg. (holotype) .

Distribution. Brazil (São Paulo) The location of the holotype was erroneously designated as Rio de Janeiro when it administratively belongs to São Paulo ( Costa & Mascarenhas 1998).
