D i s t r i b u t i o n: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, " Congo ", Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ivory Coast, Kenya ( Kenya, Pate), Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania ( Tanzania, Mafia), Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Known from the Palearctic Region. In the Malagasy Subregion recorded from Seychelles (Aldabra, Assumption, Astove, Cosmoledo), Comoros (Grande Comore, Anjouan), Mayotte and Madagascar.

The correct name of the author under Vespa capensis is a Linné.
