D e s c r i p t i o n:

Body length 10 mm. Flagellum very long and slender, longer than body, with 36 flagellomeres, first flagellomere (without anellus) about 4 times as long as wide, no tyloids visible. Temples strongly narrowd behind the eyes. Lateral ocelli about as long 0.9 as their distance to the eyes, head with dense puncture. Malar space 0.7 times as long as the width of the mandibular base. Hypostomal carina slightly raised.

Mesosoma matte, mesoscutum and mesopleura densely rugulo-punctured, matte, coxal carina indistinct, scutellum only slightly elevated, longer than wide, lateral carinae in the basal 0,7. Propodeum sloping to the apex, no clear differentiation between horizontal and apical areas, finely rugose, without apophyses, spiracles elongate (index about 4.0). Area superomedia horseshoe-shaped, longer than wide, without costulae.

Hind femur slender, about 5.0 times as long as high, with superficial dense puncture. Postpetiole slightly widened, with more or less distinct dorsal carinae, median field finely granulated, more or less shining. Second tergite long, 1.2 times as long as wide, gastrocoeli indistinct, thyridia small, oblique, each about 0.8 times as wide as their interval, second and third tergites granulate and matte.

Colour black. Ivory are stripes or rings on flagellomeres 13-17/18, face, clypeus (except the darkend apical margin), palps, frontal orbits, stripes on outer orbits, scape beneath, anterior and upper margins of pronotum, subalar ridge, spot on tegulae, scutellum and postscutellum, front and middle coxae and front trochanters anteriorly, segments 1-4 of hind tarsi. First tergite completely, and tergites 2 and 3 in the anterior half black, tergites otherwise reddish-brown, with diffuse paler reddish-yellow colour laterally. Coxae and trochanters black, legs otherwise reddish-brown, all femora with blackish stripes dorsally, hind femora and tibiae black apically, front and middle tarsi and fifth segment of hind tarsi black. Pterostigma black.

T a x o n o m i c a l r e m a r k The above mentioned specimen shows the typical features for the genus Asthenolabus and is decribed as new in this paper, but might belong to one of the described females (see HEINRICH 1974). However, more material of both sexes is necessary to make a clear decision.
