Material examined. East Anatolia: HNHM /16097 1 ex, Trabzon, Hamsiköy, along the road to Çıralı Köyü, 1262 m a.s.l., 0 6.07.2012, leg. Z. Fehér.

Remarks. Zicsi (1973) found that both the type material of Ap. h. mahnerti from Uludağ, Turkey and the specimen from the Caucasus identified by Michaelsen (1910: 53) as Helodrilus (Dendrobaena) handlirschi var. rhenani Bretscher, 1899 are identical and differ in the position of the clitellum and tubercles from the original description of Helodrilus (Dendrobaena) handlirschi var. rhenani Bretscher, 1899 from Switzerland. The latter has recently been considered as a junior synonym of Ap. h. handlirschi (Rosa, 1897) ( Zicsi 1982; Csuzdi 2012). Therefore it is possible that the subspecies name handlirschi rhenani, which perhaps is based on Michaelsen's record only, appeared erroneously in the list of Turkish earthworms ( Omodeo & Rota 1991, Table II; Mısırlıoğlu 2009).
