gen. nov.

Editella gen. nov.

Type species. Editella thailandica sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Idiosoma oval, dorsally domed and strongly sclerotised. Dorsal and marginal shields fused anteriorly, all dorsal setae short, with pilose distal margins. Sternal, ventral and marginal setae similar in shape and length to dorsal setae. Dorsal and ventral idiosoma covered by oval pits. Genital shield of female triangular, with web-like sculptural pattern. Peritremes hook-shaped. Leg I without ambulacral claws, with pilose and smooth setae. Hypostomal setae h1 long, h2 short, both with smooth margins, h3 and h4 marginally serrate and short. Palp trochanter with one long pilose seta and one short serrate seta. Corniculi short and horn-like, fixed digit of chelicerae as long as movable digit, bearing several large and small teeth. Internal sclerotised node present on chelicerae.

Etymology. I dedicate the new genus to Edit Tóth, for her valuable help with work on the Uropodina of southeast Asia. Gender feminine.

Notes on the genus. The shape of the chelicera in Editella is similar to that of the genera Baloghjkaszabia Hirschmann, 1973 , Kaszabjbaloghia Hirschmann, 1973 , and Bloszykiella Kontschán, 2010 ( Kontschán, 2010c) in the numerous large and short teeth on the chelicera. However the internal sclerotised node, which is present in the new genus, is absent in the previously mentioned genera. Only two genera ( Wernerhirschmannia Hiramatsu, 1983a and Multidenturopoda WiŠniewski & Hirschmann, 1991 ) have chelicerae with an internal sclerotised node associated with levator tendon similar to Editella . Unfortunately only the deutonymphal stage of genus Multidenturopoda WiŠniewski & Hirschmann, 1991 is described. The distinguishing characters of the previously mentioned genera in the adults are summarized Table 1 View TABLE 1 . On the basis of the following characters I provisionally place the new genus into the family Dinychidae : presence of internal sclerotised node associated with levator tendon and absence of mushroom- or flower-shaped sensory organ of fixed digit of chelicerae, long h1 setae and terminally smooth corniculi ( Lindquist et al. 2009), but the members of this family need revision. On the basis of the large, strongly dentate chelicerae, this species seems to be carnivorous, and may feed on other components of the soil mesofauna, especially on weakly sclerotised mites or springtails.
