In Europe, this Mediterranean-Atlantic species is distributed in the Western Europe and Mediterranean area ( Blockeel et al. 2014). In the region, it is present in some neighboring countries - Croatia, Greece and Montenegro ( Ros et al. 2013). Revision of the herbarium material showed that specimen from Kovačica in Bačka region (leg. Sabovljević, M. 18.02.2001. BEOU/Bryo01425), was misidentified, and re-identified as Funaria hygrometrica (rev. Sabovljević, M. 07.06.2017).
