Heilipus catagraphus Germar, 1834: 400 View in CoL (holotype " Brasilia ", NHRS, not examined); Boheman 1836:156; O'Brien & Wibmer, 1986: 146 (Cat.)

Description of genitalia and associate structures. Male genitalia ( Figs. 47–51 View FIGURES 47 – 51 ): median lobe of aedeagus (Figs. 47,48) strongly arcuate, slender, about 3 times as long as wide, greatest width at base, sides subparallel to near apex, anterior margin and anterior margin rounded, asetose; apodemes about 1.2 times as long as median lobe; internal sac with mictrotrichiae but without large sclerites. Tegmen ( Fig. 49, 50 View FIGURES 47 – 51 ) apex of manubrium (or apodeme) truncate. Sternite IX ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 47 – 51 ) with spiculum gastrale broad, evenly curved.

Bursa copulatrix without sclerites.

Geographic distribution. Brazil, regions southeast (states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and, São Paulo) and south (states of Paraná and Santa Catarina).

Host plants. avocado tree— Persea americana Mill. (Lauraceae) and "canelinha"— Nectandra venulosa Meisn. According to Silva et al. (1968), the weevil also develops in species of the family Annonaceae , "fruta-doconde"— Annona squamosa L. and "biribá", same common name for different species— Rollinia deliciosa Safford. and R. mucosa (Jacq.) Baill. The identification of the weevils associated with the Annonaceae species should be checked as possible being H. gibbus .
