Type Locality. Gunung Mulu World Heritage Area (N04°02'32.8", E114°48'49.6"), Sarawak, Malaysia.
Diagnosis. Head pale yellow-green, basal edge of postclypeus, anteclypeus, lorum and basal half maxillary plate dark brown; prothorax yellow green, posterolateral angle dark brown; scutellum dark brown; pro- and mesothoracic legs dark brown, metathoracic legs lighter brown.
Description. Head ( Figs 29–32 View FIGURES 29 – 32 ): bright yellow-green; eyes yellow green; face yellow; basal ¼ of postclypeus, anteclypeus, lorum, and basal ½ of maxillary plate dark brown; vertex smooth, lacking median carina. Thorax ( Figs 29–34 View FIGURES 29 – 32 View FIGURES 33 – 34 ): pronotum bright yellow-green; dark brown coloration wraps around body to frontal edge of scutellum encompassing posterolateral angle of pronotum; legs light to dark brown; tegmen apically hyaline, becoming increasingly opaque along basal half; veins strongly pigmented, flanked by dark punctures; anal veins fused medially. Genitalia: Male: pygofer ( Figs 35–36 View FIGURES 35 – 41 ) lightly sclerotized, consisting of upper and lower sclerites, scabrous area projecting slightly from apical sides; subgenital plates ( Figs 35–36 View FIGURES 35 – 41 ) rounded at apex; aedeagus ( Figs 37–38 View FIGURES 35 – 41 ) cylindrical, heavily scaled dorsally and ventrally; parameres ( Figs 39–41 View FIGURES 35 – 41 ) with short styli and rounded medially with an apical lobe with setae on dorsal edge. Female: unknown.
Measurements (mm). Body length: male 5.0; pronotal length: male 1.51; forewing length: male 4.5; maximum width of head, including eyes: male 1.54; width between humeral angles: male 2.2.
Distribution. MALAYSIA: Sarawak, Gunung Mulu World Heritage Area.
Remarks. While K. maaia may superficially resemble species of Taihorina , it differs in the male genitalia (lacking the apical process) and the forewing venation (being visible).
Etymology. This species is named in honor of Tsing-Chao Maa, for his important work on the systematics of Machaerotidae .
