Redescription (male). General: Body length 18.0–18.5 mm; width 8.0–8.5 mm, widest at humeral umbone. Body dark brown to black, with week green and wine-red metallic reflections. Surface with fulvous, brown, black and light yellow setae, and yellow tomentous maculae. Head: Dark brown. Dorsal surface with dense, setiferous punctures; setae short, fulvous. Clypeus with week green and wine-red metallic reflections, anterior margin nearly straight and slightly raised; clypeolateral ridge not distinct. Frons flat or with a short, slightly raised, longitudinal ridge ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1–23 ). Maxillary palpus and labial palpus dark brown. Antenna dark brown to black; antennal club very long, about twice the length of antennomeres 2–7 combined; inner side of antennomere 8 with short, dense, fulvous setae ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1–23 ). Ventral surface clad with long, fulvous setae ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Pronotum: Dark brown to black, with week green and wine-red metallic reflections. Widest at base, basomedian area depressed. Lateral margin curved; posterior margin distinctly protruded. Surface densely clad with setiferous punctures; setae long, brown and black ( Fig. 155 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Scutellum: Black, with long, sparse, light yellow and fulvous setae. Elytron: Dark brown to black, with week wine-red metallic reflections; with posthumeral macula, lateral macula, and median macula, without distal macula. Surface densely clad with setae; setae long between sutural and discolateral costae; setae light yellow on maculae; setae brown on disc, juxtascutellar area, and distal declivity; setae dark brown around humeral umbone; setae on lateral declivity black; humeral umbone glabrous ( Fig. 155 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Mesepimeron, metepisternum and metepimeron: Dark brown to black, with light yellow and black setae. Sternum: Preprosternum black, almost glabrous, sides with sparse, fulvous setae. Mesosternum black, with light yellow setae. Mesometasternal process short, glabrous, black, apex rounded; mesometasternal suture depressed, with long, yellow setae. Metasternum black, with dense light yellow and fulvous setae; middle portion glabrous ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Pygidium: Dark brown. Surface with dense, yellow (or fulvous) and dark brown setae; a small, round, yellow macula in middle ( Fig. 86 View FIGURES 72–98 ). Abdomen: Dark brown, with wine-red metallic reflections. Without median groove. Six abdominal sternites visible; sternites III–V clad with sparse, fulvous setae; setae on sternite II long, dense; setae on sternites III–V short, sparse, but longer on sides; setae near posterior margin of sternite VI long, dense; sternite VII almost glabrous. Sternites II–V densely clad with black and fulvous setae in dorsal and lateral portion ( Fig. 156 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Legs: Slender, simple. Metacoxa black, with long, light yellow setae. Femora and tibia dark brown to black, with long, fulvous and light yellow setae. Tiny teeth between 3 large teeth of protibia distinct ( Fig. 3 3 View FIGURES 1–23 ); mesotibia and metatibia with a spine near the middle of outer margin; metatibia with a row of brush-like, fulvous setae along inner margin ( Figs. 155–156 View FIGURES 155–158 ); dorsal tooth of metatibia shorter than basitarsus of metatarsus ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 48–65 ); outer tooth small, indistinct. Tarsi reddish-brown; basitarsus of male metatarsus without cluster of long setae ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 48–65 ). Genitalia: Parameres broad, long; apex rounded, expanded; Apical half of interparameral split constricted; base with membrane, divided in medial. Median lobe ribbon-like; less than twice length of paramere ( Fig. 116 View FIGURES 111–122 ).

Female. Body length 16.5–18.5 mm; width 7.5–8.5 mm. Except for sexual dimorphism characteristics of the genus, pronotum and elytra with weaker metallic reflections ( Fig. 157 View FIGURES 155–158 ); tiny teeth in protibia indistinct ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 24–47 ); dorsal and outer teeth of metatibia larger, and longer than basitarsus of metatarsus ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 48–65 ); setae on mesotibia and metatibia sparser and shorter ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 48–65 ).

Variability. Median maculae of elytron and the yellow macula on pygidium is absent in some individuals ( Figs. 87, 89 View FIGURES 72–98 ).

Differential diagnosis. Length of clypeus almost equal to width. Antenna dark brown to black ( Figs. 10–11 View FIGURES 1–23 ). Dorsal surface mostly clad with brown or black setae. Elytra with posthumeral maculae, median maculae, and lateral maculae ( Figs. 155, 157 View FIGURES 155–158 ). Pygidium usually with a small, round, yellow macula ( Figs. 86, 88 View FIGURES 72–98 ), sometimes absent ( Figs. 87, 89 View FIGURES 72–98 ). Abdominal sides without yellow maculae ( Figs. 156, 158 View FIGURES 155–158 ); male abdomen without median groove. Legs dark brown to black; protibia with tiny teeth ( Figs. 33–34 View FIGURES 24–47 ); dorsal tooth of male metatibia shorter than basitarsus of metatarsus ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 48–65 ); basitarsus of male metatarsus without cluster of long setae ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 48–65 ).

This species resembles M. olivaceofuscus , but can be readily differentiated by antenna dark brown to black ( Figs. 10–11 View FIGURES 1–23 ; in M. olivaceofuscus yellowish-brown, Figs. 12–13 View FIGURES 1–23 ), body color darker, pygidium with a small macula or absent ( Figs. 86–89 View FIGURES 72–98 ; macula larger in M. olivaceofuscus , Figs. 90–91 View FIGURES 72–98 ), and parameres in different shape ( Fig. 116 View FIGURES 111–122 ).

Distribution. Taiwan Island.
