Original description: Aspiostoma zarudnyi Nikolskii, 1897: 346 View in CoL [Neizar marsh in Seistan (Sistan), Iran; holotype: ZIN 11115].— Afghanistan synonyms: Oreinus anjac Fowler & Steinitz, 1956 View in CoL ; Barbus microlepis Keyserling, 1861 View in CoL .—Revisions: Bianco & Bănărescu (1982: 92) as Schizopyge zarudny View in CoL ; Coad & Keyzer-de Ville (2005: 36).—Illustration: None.
Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Fowler and Steinitz (1956) as Schizothorax anjac ; confirmed by Coad (1981: 12 as Schizothorax anjac ; 2014: 229; 2015: 228).—Afghanistan materials: USNM.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Sistan River, Harut and Adraskan River.—General distribution: Middle East: Sistan Basin ( Afghanistan and Iran).—Habitat: This species inhabits rivers and streams. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: NE (2023).—Threats: Unknown.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
