Taxonomy. Original description: Nemacheilus bampurensis Nikolskii, 1900: 414 [40] [Kjagur and Kashin (Kaekin) rivers,Bampur River near Bazman, Iran; syntypes:ZIN11698-99(6+,4)].— Afghanistan synonyms: Nemacheilus bampurensis Nikolskii, 1900 ; Schistura bampurensis ( Nikolskii, 1900) ; Nemacheilus baluchiorum Zugmayer, 1912 ; Noemacheilus baluchiorum Zugmayer, 1912 ; Schistura baluchiorum ( Zugmayer, 1912) ; Schistura balachiorum ( Zugmayer, 1912) .—Revisions: Nalbant & Bianco (1998: 118) as Schistura bampurensis ; Freyhof et al. Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Banarescu & Nalbant (1966) as Noemacheilus baluchiorum ; confirmed by Coad (1981: 12) as Noemacheilus baluchiorum .—Afghanistan materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Helmand River.—General distribution: Middle East and South Asia: Bampur River basin (Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan).—Habitat: This species occurs in streams with moderately to fast flowing freshwater in both mountainous and lowlands. These areas are dependent on the level of use of water resources and rain levels in relation to climate change. Freshwater.

Economic importance. No commercial importance.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC ( Freyhof & Daniels 2022a).—Threats: CON, CLI,ABS.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Keystone species.—Decline status:Decreasing.— Moderate priority for conservation action.
