Taxonomy. Original description: Glyptothorax kashmirensis Hora, 1923: 22 View in CoL , fig. 2 [Kashmir Valley, India; syntypes: ZSI F10270/1 (2)].— Afghanistan synonyms: Glyptothorax naziri Mirza & Naik, 1969 View in CoL .—Revisions: Jayaram (2006: 230).—Illustration: Hora (1923: fig. 2).

Status in Afghanistan. First listed by Coad (1981: 16 as Glyptothorax naziri ; 2014: 330).—Afghanistan materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kashmir.—Habitat: This species inhabits swift-flowing rivers with a substrate of sand and rocks, as well as lakes. Freshwater.

Economic importance. No commercial importance.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: CR ( Rafique et al. 2022f).—Threats: CON, ABS, HAB, COM.—High sensitivity to human activities.—Keystone species.—Decline status: Severe decline.—High priority for conservation action.
