Zosterodasys serrani Fernandez-Leborans, 1990
( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 C, D, H)
Zosterodasys serrani Fernandez-Leborans, 1990: 90 , figs 1–12; Fernandez-Leborans & Alekperov 1996: 15, fig. 17 (taxonomic revision); Jankowski 2007: 729.
Diagnosis. Size about 133–138 × 66–69 µm in fixed specimens. Body shape ellipsoidal. Macronucleus roundish with a single globular micronucleus. About 50 ciliary rows: 29–36 ventral and 15–19 dorsal. Synhymenium restricted to ventral body side. On average 22 (20–24) nematodesmal rods. Freshwater.
Type locality. La Jarosa Reservoir, 60 km NW of Madrid, Spain.
Type material. Deposition of type material not mentioned in the original publication.
Etymology. Not given in the original description. Very likely named in honour of the Spanish protozoologist, Susana Serrano.
Remarks. Fernandez-Leborans (1990) investigated mainly fixed and stained material, thus redescription based on detailed live observation is recommended. Zosterodasys serrani is outstanding among congeners in having a synhymenium restricted only to the ventral body side (vs. extending also onto the dorsal side), thus the dorsal ciliary rows are uninterrupted. Therefore, Z. serrani very likely belongs to a different genus.
