Neu-Caledonien: Mt. Humboldt ca. 1100 m, 17. September 1911; Gipfel 1600 m, 18. September 1911. Unspecified number of ♂, ♀ and juveniles.

The MHNG collection contains three specimens, one with a pin running the length of the body, in alcohol ( MHNG-ARTO-14292 ). The identification label in the jar has “Nlle Cal. Sarasin et Roux” written on it, indicating that the specimens are syntypes. There are two syntypes in the NMB (inventory numbers NMB-DIPL-00352a and NMB-DIPL-00352 b).

Canacophilus acutangulus is the type species of Anthogonopus Carl, 1926 by monotypy ( Jeekel, 1971).
