Compsibidion inflatum View in CoL sp. nov.

( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6. 1 )

Description. Integument reddish–brown to black. Frons and vertex (40×) densely punctate. Antennal tubercles indicated. Upper ocular lobes with five rows of ommatidia, separated by twice width of one lobe. Lateral area behind inferior lower ocular lobes and genae punctate. Gula punctate. Antennae reddish–brown; in males, reaching elytral apices approximately in middle of antennomere VIII; in females, approximately in apex of antennomere X. Scape subcylindrical and punctate. In males, antennomere III enlarged, narrowed at a short basal region, without carina, as long as twice length of IV, with long bristles, mainly on internal side; in females, antennomere III, without carina. Antennomere IV as long as two-thirds of V.

Prothorax with sides slightly rounded. Pronotum punctate on sides, microsculptured in some areas; medially with low elevation and longitudinally smooth; base of pronotum with inconspicuous pubescence. Sides of prothorax and prosternum shining.

Elytra with a small yellow spot, rounded, and situated after middle. Pubescence in each elytron arranged in five slightly irregular rows. Elytral apex transversely truncate.

Femora pubescent, pedunculate, and clavate. Underside of body finely pubescent.

Measurements in mm, male/female. Total length, 7.9–8.0/8.8; prothorax length, 1.9–2.0/1.9; greatest width of prothorax, 1.2–1.3/1.3; elytron length, 5.2–5.2/6.0; humeral width, 1.7–1.7/1.9.

Etymology. Latin; inflatus: enlarged, allusive to antennomere III.

Type material. Holotype male, ECUADOR, Guayas: Sabanilla (1 km E), 20.II.2006, F. T. Hovore & I. Swift col. ( CASC). Paratype male, same data as holotype ( MZSP); Loja: Catamayo (17.5 km S), paratype female, 22– 24.II.2006, F. T. Hovore & I. Swift col. ( CASC).

Remarks. In C. inflatum sp. nov. the elytral apices are truncate without external spines. In Martins & Galileo (2007) key to species, it is discriminated in couplet 23 that separates 11 species; however, in some of them, only antennomere III is enlarged in males, e.g., C. reichardti (Martins, 1962) , which has bicolored elytra. The remaining species differ from C. inflatum by color and antennal formula.
