Key to European species of the genus Uroiphis (females)
1. All dorsocentral setae subequal in length ( Fig. 149); longest setae on dorsal shield not more than 40 µm long; soft opisthogastric integument with strongly developed dense granulation over whole surface; dorsal and ventral shields strongly sclerotised and well defined ( Figs 149 and 150); dorsal shield densely sculptured, verrucous on surface; smaller species, length of dorsal shield 315–375 µm [British Isles, Russia, Slovakia].................................................. .............................................................................................................................. Uroiphis greeni ( Evans 1980) (p. 86)
- Dorsocentral setae strongly heterogeneous in length ( Figs 159, 161), z5, J2, J5 short, less than half the length of adjacent setae; longest setae on dorsal shield more than 55 µm long; soft integument between epigynal and anal shields smooth, without granulation; dorsal and ventral shields weakly sclerotised, especially sternal shield poorly defined; dorsal shield weakly ornamented, smooth on medial surface; larger species, dorsal shield longer than 500 µm ................................................................................................................................................................................. 2
2. Most dorsal setae long enough to reach or surpass insertions of following setae ( Fig. 161); longest dorsal setae 90– 115 µm in length; length of J5 19–41 µm, Z5 70–78 µm, S5 106–115 µm; posterior margin of dorsal shield regularly rounded; granulation of dorsolateral and ventromarginal soft integument fine; laciniae of tritosternum normal, long ( Fig. 162); length of dorsal shield 530–560 µm [Europe, Turkey] ................. Uroiphis scabratus Berlese 1903 (p. 91)
- Dorsal setae short, only some marginal setae long enough to reach insertions of following setae ( Fig. 159): longest dorsal setae 60–65 µm in length; length of J5 10–12 µm, Z5 20–22 µm, S5 58 –62 µm; posterior margin of dorsal shield almost truncate; granulation of dorsolateral and ventromarginal soft integument coarse; laciniae of tritosternum very short ( Fig. 160); length of dorsal shield 518 µm [ Slovakia]................ Uroiphis montivagus sp. nov. (p. 89)
