Genus Eupyrochroa Blair, 1914

Eupyrochroa Blair, 1914: 316 . Type species: Pyrochroa insignita Fairmaire, 1894 , by subsequent designation ( Pollock & Young 2008: 49).

Diagnosis. Adults of Eupyrochroa are most similar to those of Pyrochroa spp. but can be easily distinguished by the larger body size, the head with strongly produced genae ( Fig. 3A–C View FIGURE 3 ) (genae rounded in Pyrochroa spp. ), and lateral aspects of the pronotum strongly angulate sub-basally ( Fig.1 A–F View FIGURE 1 ) (rounded in Pyrochroa spp. ). However, these two genera do not exhibit distinct differences in several features (e.g., the coloration of the head, pronotum, and scutellum, and structure of the male genitalia) (see Discussion, below).

After comparison with the larval descriptions of the three Pyrochroa species from Europe ( Molfini et al. 2021, 2022), the larva of Eupyrochroa is similar to that of Pyrochroa . The lateral lobes of urogomphal plate are well-developed, rounded, the urogomphal plate possesses lateral teeth on the outside and two urogomphal pits, the urogomphi long, slender, straight, and subparallel, a weakly developed parabasal ridge is associated with abdominal terga I and VIII. Unlike Pyrochroa larvae ( Molfini et al. 2022), the urogomphal plate of E. insignita is also toothed on the inside.

Distribution. China, Laos (New Country Record, see Other materials, below).
