Mecocerculus taeniopterus Cabanis

Mecocerculus taeniopterus Cabanis, 1874: 98 .

Now: Mecocerculus stictopterus taeniopterus Cabanis, 1874 View in CoL . See Cory & Hellmayr (1927: 397).

Type series: Cabanis (1874: 98) based this species on one or more unsexed specimens, but he had only one specimen at disposal, according to the Accession Catalogue of the ZMB. This holotype is deposited in the ZMB.

Holotype: ZMB 21611 (B-10240), unsexed, collected by Jelski on an unknown date [= May to September 1871 or February 1873] in "central Peru " [= Sillapata or Maraynioc, Peru]. Received in spirit (cf. Cabanis 1874: 97).

Type locality: Cabanis (1874: 98–99) did not know the exact locality where the holotype was collected, just that it originated from "central Peru ". Taczanowski (1875: 533) wrote that Jelski sent him this species only from "Sillapeta" and "Maraynioc". The holotype thus probably originated from Sillapata [11.22°S, 75.91°W] or from Maraynioc [11.37°S, 75.40°W], both located in central Peru not far from each other.

Remarks: Taczanowski (1875: 533) wrote about "deux mâles de Sillapeta et du Maraynioc" (two males from Sillapeta and from Maraynioc). Both of these specimens, collected by Jelski on 8 February 1873 (MIZ 33905) and on 5 June 1871 (MIZ 33914), respectively, are still deposited in the MIZ ( Mlíkovský 2009b). Taczanowski (1874) thus probably omitted from his list of Jelski's specimens a double sold to Cabanis. The MIZ specimens have no type status (see Mlíkovský 2009b for details).
