Type species: Austrohancockia kuangtungensis ( Tinkham, 1936) by original designation.

Description and differential diagnosis. Deng and Lei published a redescription in 2019, (see Deng & Lei 2019). This genus is similar to Gibbotettix , but it differs from the latter by the anterior margin of the pronotum, which is usually truncate or obtuse angulate, not produced over the head; the anterior half of the pronotum not or slightly prominent, only the median carina is elevated before shoulder; humeral angles and metalateral projections significantly projected.

Composition and distribution. The genus Austrohancockia currently includes 18 species worldwide, distributed mainly in China, Vietnam, and Japan. The majority of the species (16 members) of the genus Austrohancockia is found in China.
