Type (lectotype designated by Townsend 1985: 31):— Herb. Tournefort 1849 (P!).

Nomenclatural notes:— Moquin-Tandon (1849: 263−264) listed one collection for his Am. albiflorus (“Gaudich.! 1830”, where “1830” probably refers collection number), while no provenance was reported (“Hab...”). I found a specimen at P (barcode 04021957) bearing the distal part of one plant and the original label “ Amaranthus albiflorus Prodr. 13, 2, p. 263 | amaranthus? | chenopodium? | Patr.? | Gaudichaud ”. Unfortunately the collection number “1830” (as reported in the protologue) is lacking on the label. Moreover the date of collection also does not occur. As a consequence, I cannot be sure that this specimen is part of the original material, and I prefer to avoid its use for the lectotypification purpose. Due to the absence of other available exsiccata, a neotypification is required (Art. 9.7 of the ICN). I here designated the specimen P 04021957 as the neotye of the name Amaranthus albiflorus .

Taxonomical notes:—On the basis of the diagnosis, description, type, and current concept in Amaranthus (see e.g., Carretero 1990, Akeroyd 1993, Mosyakin & Robertson 2003, Iamonico 2015), Am. albiflorus refers to Am. graecizans subsp. sylvestris .
