Description of song: Chorthippus bornhalmi male calling song generally consists of a polysyllabic phrase ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 B). The calling song usually lasts for 2–8 s. The phrase generally begins quietly and the maximum intensity is usually reached in the 1/4 or 1/3 part of the phrase ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 B); however, in some of the songs there is often a more gradual crescendo which occasionally lasts about half of the phrase. Syllable numbers vary from 12 to 32 in a phrase ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 B). The duration of syllables generally changes between 95 and 124 ms ( Figs. 16 View FIGURE 16 C–D).
