Archaeosmylidia Makarkin et al., 2014 View in CoL
( Fig. 63 View FIGURE 63 )
Type species. Archaeosmylidia fusca Makarkin et al., 2014: 210 (by original designation).
Comments: The Mid Jurassic-aged Archaeosmylidia was considered by Makarkin et al. (2014) to be the intermediate between Archeosmylidae and Osmylidae . Known only from a single forewing, this genus has a unique combination of characteristics compared with other Osmylidae , including multiple sc-r crossveins (typically one), RP branches largely straight (frequently sinuous), CuP with few branches and dichotomously branched (commonly CuP is larger in area than CuA, with pectinate branching), and radial and medial crossveins are few in number (typically numerous). In a phylogenetic analysis by Winterton et al. (2017) Archaeosmylidia was weakly supported as sister to Osmylinae rather than as sister to the rest of Osmylidae as proposed by Makarkin et al. (2014). The phylogenetic position of this genus remains uncertain.
