Type species. Tenuosmylus brevineurus Wang et al., 2009b: 558 (by original designation).

Diagnosis. Wings narrowly ovoid, medium length; crossveins irregularly spaced and few in number; FW RP with eight branches, RP1 originating relatively distant from wing base, approximately wing length in both wings; FW M fork close to origin of RP; MA, MP few branched close to wing margin; FW CuA pectinately branched, with six branches interlinked by crossveins, end-twigging present in most branches; HW CuA elongate pectinately branched but lacking interlinking crossveins and end-twigging; FW CuP and A1 with few pectinate branches.

Comments. The status of Tenuosmylus relative to Epiosmylus and Enodinympha is questionable, as the wings of all three genera are very similar in all significant respects, except that in Tenuosmylus and Enodinympha the forewing cubital vein has secondary crossveins interlinking the branches of CuA and end-twigging; these are lacking in Epiosmylus . Additionally, are eight branches of RP in Tenuosmlyus compared with fewer than six in Epiosmylus . Presently, we maintain Tenuosmylus as distinct from Epiosmylus , but the status of the genus relative to Enodinympha requires further investigation.
