Minutaleyrodes indicus Meganathan and David View in CoL
( Figs 24–26 View FIGURES 24–26 )
Minutaleyrodes indicus Meganathan and David, 1994: 43 View in CoL .
The following additional information is added to the original description of Meganathan and David (1994).
Puparium. White, without secretion of wax; constricted at thoracic tracheal pores and posterior abdominal segments region; broadest across the first abdominal region ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24–26 ); 540–580 µm long, 440–490 µm wide.
Margin. Crenulate ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 24–26 ), 24–37 crenulations in 0.1 mm; thoracic tracheal pores indicated with deep invagination while caudal tracheal pore region indicated by shallow emargination. Anterior and posterior abdominal setae 17 µm and 8 µm long, respectively.
Dorsum. Dorsum without any tessellation. Cephalothorax with three pairs of tubercles, one pair each on pro-, meso-, and metathorax on outer submedian area, and abdomen with six pairs of tubercles—one pair on each abdominal segment I and III–VII on outer submedian area. Median tubercles on abdominal segment I–VII faintly indicated. Submarginal lines irregular. Longitudinal moulting suture reaching margin and transverse moulting suture runs posteriorly and curves upwards and terminating near margin below the thoracic tracheal pores. Thoracic tracheal furrows absent while caudal tracheal furrow indicated ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 24–26 ).
Vasiform orifice. Subcircular, 29–37 µm long, 31–34 µm wide, notched at caudal end; operculum subcordate, 16–22 µm long, 19–25 µm wide. Lingula concealed.
Venter. Paired ventral abdominal setae 7.5 µm long, 42–43 µm apart; thoracic and caudal tracheal folds indicated. Antennae reaching base of prothoracic legs. Adhesive sacs and spiracles visible.
Chaetotaxy. Cephalic setae 9 µm long, eighth abdominal setae cephalolaterad of vasiform orifice, 5 µm long and caudal setae 10 µm long.
Material examined. India: Karnataka: Kudremukh National Park , 10 puparia on 10 slides, on Cinnamomum malabatrum , 8.viii.2001, A.K. Dubey .
Hosts. Adoxaceae : Viburnum cylindricum (= Viburnum coriaceum ) ( Meganathan and David, 1994); Lauraceae : Cinnamomum malabatrum ( Dubey and Ko, 2008) .
Distribution. India: Kerala ( Meganathan and David, 1994).
Remarks. Puparia of this species differ from those of M. minuta in having six pairs of tubercles on abdominal segments versus four pairs in M. minuta .
