status

Brumus ceylonicus Weise, 1900: 421 .— Korschefsky 1932: 265; Poorani 2002: 310.

Diagnosis. Form elongate oval, dorsum moderately convex and glabrous. Ground colour yellowish-orange; scutellar shield yellow or yellowish with dark brown borders; elytra with three black vittae, one along suture and one on the middle of each elytron ( Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 , 11 View FIGURE 11 .) (Based on the images of the syntypes preserved at SDEI). Male genitalia of syntype as illustrated ( Fig. 10a View FIGURE 10 ).

Distribution. Sri Lanka.

Notes. In Poorani’s (2002) checklist of the Indian Subcontinent , Brumus ceylonicus was listed with a note that ‘it might be a Brumoides ’. Images of the two syntypes of ‘ Brumus ceylonicus ’ deposited at SDEI (obtained through the courtesy of Kevin Weissing, SDEI) show that this species indeed is a Brumoides and it is transferred here to Brumoides (comb. n.). The male syntype (abdomen and genitalia dissected and glued to a card) is hereby designated as a lectotype to ensure stability of nomenclature (lectotype designation). This is likely to be a synonym of either B. suturalis or B. lineatus , both of which are found in South India. The male genitalia could not be examined in detail for confirmation.
