Genus Euclimacia Enderlein, 1910 View in CoL

Euclimacia Enderlein, 1910: 362 View in CoL .

Type species: Euclimacia partita Enderlein, 1910: 366 .

Diagnostic characters. Flagellomeres symmetrical, perfoliate; pronotum irregularly wrinkled, surface pubescent, prothoracic maculae conspicuous, dorsolaterally directed, prothorax shorter than pterothorax; wings with pigmentation.

Remarks. The species of this genus are brightly colored and are well known for wasp mimicking. Most of the species of this genus have been described on the basis of differences in coloration and wing venation. No key to the species has been published and it is very cumbersome job to make such key without physically verifying the Euclimacia species. Here, we made an preliminary attempt to separate the Indian species of Euclimacia based on the following key.

Key to species

1. Costal area of wings without any pigmentation.................................................. E. woodhousei

- Costal area of wings with pigmentation ( Fig. 7 View FIGS )............................................................. 2

2. Antenna reddish brown ( Fig. 3 View FIGS ).......................................................................... 3

- Antenna proximally dark to black, distally reddish yellow..................................................... 4

3. Prozona with three longitudinal flocking stripes at posterior margin...................................... E. cottami

- Prozona without longitudinal stripes (Figs.3,4)....................................................... E. nodosa

4. Body black with sunset yellow transverse bands on vertex posterior to antennae, medially connected partially; wing apex light brown ( Figs. 7 View FIGS ).......................................................................... E.similis sp. nov.

- Body yellowish orange without any bands on vertex; wing apex dark brown ( Figs. 21 View FIGS )............ .. E. nicobarica sp. nov.
