Remarks. Platypalpus includes more than 500 described species from all zoogeographical regions, but the Neotropical fauna is poorly studied with 22 registered species ( Freitas-Silva & Ale-Rocha 2013), six of them from Chile ( Philippi 1865; Bezzi 1909; Collin 1933), and has representatives in Peru ( Melander 1902; Bezzi 1909), Brazil ( Philippi 1865; Bezzi 1909; Smith 1962) and Ecuador ( Freitas-Silva & Ale-Rocha 2013).
