Protologue citation:—“ Himalaya : Sikkim, ad Gangtuk (hb. Calcutt.!)”.
Type:— INDIA. Sikkim: Gangtok , 9 Aug. 1877, King’s collector 4442 (lectotype CAL0000018949 !, designated here) ; isolectotypes CAL0000018950!, K000739039!
Notes:—While describing Pedicularis kingii, Maximowicz (1888) mentioned precise locality and the name of herbarium where specimens housed, but did not provide the date of collection, collection number and the name of the collector. At present, three original herbarium specimens of P. kingii collected by King’s collector from Gangtok, Sikkim are extant, of which two specimens are at CAL (CAL0000018949 and CAL0000018950) and one at K (K000739039). The better preserved specimen CAL0000018949, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
