Genus Anthoglossa Smith
Anthoglossa Smith 1853: 16 . Type species: Anthoglossa plumata Smith 1853 , monobasic. Paracolletes (Anthoglossa) View in CoL ; Michener 1965: 78.
Geographic distribution: Australia (most diverse in Western Australia, one species in Victoria).
Included species (8): Anthoglossa callander ( Cockerell 1915a) , comb.n. [ Paracolletes ]; Anthoglossa cygni Cockerell 1904a ; Anthoglossa frederici Cockerell 1905a (= Lamprocolletes rubellus Smith 1868 ); Anthoglossa montana ( Rayment 1935) , comb.n. [ Paracolletes ]; Anthoglossa nigrocincta ( Cockerell 1914d), comb.n. [ Paracolletes ] (= Paracolletes tenuicinctus Cockerell 1914 e); Anthoglossa plumata Smith 1853 ; Anthoglossa robusta ( Cockerell 1929c) , comb.n. [ Paracolletes ]; Anthoglossa vittata Rayment 1931.
Comments. Michener (1965) grouped Anthoglossa and Paracolletes under the genus-name Paracolletes , as subgenera of the latter. These two groups are superficially very similar, but the first phylogenetic hypothesis to include representatives from both taxa ( Almeida 2007; Almeida & Danforth, in press) did not find evidence that they constitute sister taxa. Usage of the generic concept of ‘ Paracolletes s.l. ’ can therefore be misleading for suggesting a sister-group relationship between the two taxa being treated as subgenera in that case.
